Thirty teams, 15 in each conference, play 82 games apiece between Oct. 20, 2026, and April 11, 2027, with the NBA Cup played inside that calendar from Oct. 30 to Dec. 11. The New York Knicks begin the season as defending champions, and the playoffs follow in April, once the play-in has settled the last two seeds in each conference.

When does the 2026-27 NBA season start?
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, with three games. The Boston Celtics visit the Detroit Pistons at 3 p.m. ET, the Knicks raise their 2025-26 championship banner before hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m., and the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m.
Who won the 2026 NBA championship?
The New York Knicks. They beat the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 in the Finals, closing the series with a 94-90 win in Game 5, and took the franchise's first title since 1973.
When and where is the 2026 NBA Cup final?
Friday, Dec. 11, at Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler University's arena in Indianapolis. Eight teams reach the knockout rounds, the six group winners and two wild cards, and play quarterfinals on Dec. 4-5 and semifinals on Dec. 8-9 in NBA team markets before the final.
Where is the 2027 NBA All-Star Game?
In Phoenix. NBA All-Star 2027 runs from Friday, Feb. 19, to Sunday, Feb. 21, and the All-Star Game itself is played on the Sunday.
