We rebuilt all 85 of the Blue Jays' postseason games from MLB's Stats API, with the inning-by-inning line score of each, and checked every series against MLB.com's postseason history. Toronto has played four kinds of round: the Wild Card Game or Series, the American League Division Series, the ALCS and the World Series.
Blue Jays postseason appearances, year by year
Seven of the 11 trips came as American League East champions, five of them in a nine-year run from 1985 to 1993, and four as a wild card. In 1985, 1992, 1993 and 2025 the Blue Jays had the best record in the American League, alone or tied. They have gone 2-1 in World Series and won both titles in six games.

| Year | Record | Got in as | Postseason | W-L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1985 | 99-62 | AL East champion | Lost ALCS 3-4 vs. Royals | 3-4 |
| 1989 | 89-73 | AL East champion | Lost ALCS 1-4 vs. Athletics | 1-4 |
| 1991 | 91-71 | AL East champion | Lost ALCS 1-4 vs. Twins | 1-4 |
| 1992 | 96-66 | AL East champion | Won ALCS 4-2 vs. Athletics; Won WS 4-2 vs. Braves | 8-4 |
| 1993 | 95-67 | AL East champion | Won ALCS 4-2 vs. White Sox; Won WS 4-2 vs. Phillies | 8-4 |
| 2015 | 93-69 | AL East champion | Won ALDS 3-2 vs. Rangers; Lost ALCS 2-4 vs. Royals | 5-6 |
| 2016 | 89-73 | Wild card | Won Wild Card Game vs. Orioles; Won ALDS 3-0 vs. Rangers; Lost ALCS 1-4 vs. Indians | 5-4 |
| 2020 | 32-28 | Wild card (8th seed) | Lost WC 0-2 vs. Rays | 0-2 |

| 2025 | 94-68 | AL East champion, bye | Won ALDS 3-1 vs. Yankees; Won ALCS 4-3 vs. Mariners; Lost WS 3-4 vs. Dodgers | 10-8 |
The leanest stretch came between the titles and the pennant: 21 seasons without a postseason from 1994 to 2014, then three straight losses in the Wild Card Series in 2020, 2022 and 2023, when the Blue Jays scored 13 runs in six games. The 2022 exit was the hardest of the three: both games at home, the second a 10-9 loss. The 2023 team, 89-73, was swept by the 87-75 Minnesota Twins, as our study of wild cards notes.
Blue Jays World Series history: the 1992 and 1993 titles
The 1992 Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics 4-2 in the ALCS and the Atlanta Braves 4-2 in the World Series, clinching it with a 4-3 win in 11 innings in Atlanta. They were the first team from outside the United States to play in a World Series, and the Montreal Expos, the only other Canadian franchise, never reached one before moving to Washington in 2005.
In 1993 they beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 in the ALCS and the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in the World Series, which included a 15-14 win in Game 4. Game 6 ended with Joe Carter's three-run walk-off home run in the ninth inning, with Toronto down 6-5, for an 8-6 win at SkyDome: the second World Series won on a walk-off homer, after Bill Mazeroski's in 1960.
Blue Jays record by round: Wild Card, ALDS, ALCS and World Series
The ALCS has been the Blue Jays' wall. They have won 3 of their 8 American League pennant series and lost the other five, three of them in five games, against a perfect record in the Division Series:
- Wild Card: 1 of 4 rounds, 1-6 in games. The win was the 2016 Wild Card Game against the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2 on a walk-off in the 11th.
- ALDS: 3 of 3 series, 9-3 in games, against the Texas Rangers in 2015 and 2016 and the New York Yankees in 2025.
- ALCS: 3 of 8 series, 20-27 in games. The losses came against the Kansas City Royals in 1985 and 2015, the Athletics in 1989, the Twins in 1991 and the Cleveland Indians in 2016.
- World Series: 2 of 3, 11-8 in games.

Home field has not helped: the Blue Jays are 21-24 at home in the postseason and 20-20 on the road. They have won 5 of 9 extra-inning games and hit five walk-offs, all at home, while losing one, Game 3 of the 2025 World Series, in 18 innings in Los Angeles.
Blue Jays in elimination games and Game 7s
Facing elimination, the Blue Jays are 8-9. With a chance to clinch a round they are 9-9, and in winner-take-all games, where both teams faced elimination, they are 3-2. They have played three Game 7s, all at home, and won one.
| Year | Game | Opponent | Result | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1985 | ALCS Game 7 | Royals | L 2-6, home | Winner-take-all |
| 2015 | ALDS Game 5 | Rangers | W 6-3, home | Winner-take-all, after trailing 0-2 |
| 2016 | Wild Card Game | Orioles | W 5-2 (11), home | Walk-off |
| 2025 | ALCS Game 7 | Mariners | W 4-3, home | Winner-take-all |
| 2025 | World Series Game 7 | Dodgers | L 4-5 (11), home | Winner-take-all |
The worst collapse came first. In 1985 Toronto led the Royals 3-1 in the ALCS and lost three straight chances to clinch, making the Royals one of the 14 teams in our study of MLB playoff comebacks to win a best-of-seven from 1-3. Thirty years later the Blue Jays were on the other side: down 0-2 to the Rangers in the 2015 ALDS after a 14-inning loss at home, they won three elimination games in a row, one of 10 comebacks from 0-2 in a best-of-five.
Both 2025 series turned late. In the ALCS they lost Games 1 and 2 at home to the Seattle Mariners, won the pennant in seven, and left the Mariners among the 7 teams in 64 to lose a series after winning the first two on the road. In the World Series they led the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 and lost Games 6 and 7 at home, the most recent of the 22 teams in 68 to lose a best-of-seven World Series from 3-2 up.
The Blue Jays' 2025 World Series run
The 2025 Blue Jays went 94-68 and won the AL East ahead of the Yankees, who had the same record, which earned them a bye, one of the 9 bye teams in 16 to win their Division Series from 2022 to 2025. They beat the Yankees 3-1, came back against the Mariners with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. named ALCS MVP and won Game 7 4-3 at Rogers Centre for their first pennant since 1993.
They opened the World Series with an 11-4 win over the Dodgers. Game 1 winners have gone on to win the title 76 times in 120, as our study of World Series Game 1 winners shows, and the Blue Jays became one of the exceptions. Game 7, on November 1 in Toronto, went to the 11th inning, and the Dodgers won it 5-4, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto named World Series MVP.
Blue Jays 2026: no postseason as the Division Series begin
The pennant did not carry over. The 2026 Blue Jays finished 79-83, last in the AL East and 19 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, five games short of the last wild card in the final standings, and were eliminated from contention on September 23 in Baltimore. They scored 648 runs, the fewest in the majors, as our study of MLB runs per game notes.
The American League Division Series opened on October 3 without them. As of 7:28 p.m. ET on October 4, the Rays led the Yankees 1-0 after a 1-0 win and the Chicago White Sox led the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 after a 3-0 win in Cleveland. Every series and the games left to play are on our 2026 MLB playoff bracket.
How the Blue Jays compare with other MLB teams since 1977
Since their first season in 1977, the Blue Jays' two titles put them in a seven-way tie for sixth, behind the Yankees with seven, the Dodgers with five, the Boston Red Sox with four and the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants with three. Their 11 postseasons tie them for 12th among the 30 franchises, and the Mariners, who joined the American League with them in 1977, have yet to win a pennant.

How this was built: every Blue Jays postseason game from 1985 to 2025, 85 in all, from MLB's Stats API, grouped into rounds by year, round and opponent, with each game's line score for extra innings and walk-offs, and regular-season records from the API's standings. All 18 rounds match MLB.com's postseason history, and the 44 games of 1985, 2015, 2016 and 2025 match its year pages one by one. A game counts as an elimination game when the opponent was one win from taking the round.
