How the goals came
The first half at Old Trafford finished goalless, with Kinsky saving from Amad Diallo and Lammens from Conor Gallagher, and Solanke, captaining Tottenham, missed from six yards early in the second half, according to Sky Sports' match report. Both managers set up in a 4-2-3-1.
- 73 minutes, Manchester United 1-0. Bryan Mbeumo, assisted by Matheus Cunha, scored with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box into the bottom right corner past Antonín Kinsky.
- 90+2 minutes, 1-1. Dominic Solanke headed in from the center of the box, into the bottom right corner, from a cross by Sandro Tonali. Tottenham had been down to ten men for 14 minutes plus stoppage time.
United had started the second half without a breakthrough and changed three players on 59 minutes: Joshua Zirkzee for Amad Diallo, Diogo Dalot for Leny Yoro and Carlos Baleba for Youri Tielemans. Tottenham answered on 66 minutes with Rodrigo Bentancur for Lucas Bergvall and Omar Marmoush for Mohammed Kudus. Mbeumo's goal came seven minutes later.
Turning points: Bentancur's red card
Bentancur had been on the pitch for 12 minutes when he was shown a straight red card on 78 minutes for violent conduct. ESPN reported that he was dismissed for attempting a headbutt on Luke Shaw, and Sky Sports said the incident started a brawl between the benches. Shaw and Tottenham's Jan Paul van Hecke were both booked in the same minute.
Tottenham had already brought on James Maddison for Conor Gallagher, who was booked in the fourth minute, and Micky van de Ven for Destiny Udogie on 74 minutes. With a man extra, United were booked three more times, Bruno Fernandes on 84, Lisandro Martínez on 87 and Dalot on 90+6, and did not add a second goal. Tottenham's last change was Mateus Fernandes for Marcos Senesi on 89 minutes, three minutes before the equalizer. Archie Gray was booked on 90+8, Tottenham's third yellow card.
The game was even on the numbers. Both sides had 12 shots and four corners, possession split almost exactly in half, and United put four shots on target to Tottenham's three. Kinsky made three saves and United's Senne Lammens two.

What the managers said
United were booed during the match and at the final whistle, ESPN reported, and Michael Carrick said it was the second time this season his side had thrown away a win with a late goal.
Obviously, it hurts, you know, it hurts a lot.

Roberto De Zerbi took more from the evening. His side's draw, ESPN wrote, came in their sixth league game without a win, a run Tottenham have matched at this stage of a season only twice before, in 1955-56 and 2008-09.
Today has been the game where for the first time in this season we showed to be a team.

What it means in the table
Manchester United were 12th with five points before the matchweek and are 13th with six after it: one win, three draws and two defeats from six games. ESPN noted it is their lowest points total after six games since 1986. They are four points behind fourth-placed Brentford, 12 behind leaders Manchester City and three above the relegation zone.
Tottenham started the weekend bottom with two points and are 18th with three, still without a win. They are level on points and goal difference with 17th-placed AFC Bournemouth, who have scored more goals, one point ahead of Fulham in 20th and one behind Sunderland in 16th. Coventry City, 19th with three points, have a game in hand: they play Newcastle United on Monday 12 October to complete the matchweek, so the bottom of the Premier League table can still change. How many points it usually takes to stay up is in our study of the Premier League relegation line, and Tottenham's position going into the weekend is also covered in our count of mid-season manager sackings.
