We rebuilt all 317 of Toronto's playoff games from 1969 to 2025 from the NHL's own results and grouped them into series game by game. This season's schedule and results, in Eastern Time, are on our Toronto Maple Leafs page.
The 1967 Stanley Cup: the Maple Leafs' last
The 1967 Leafs beat the Chicago Black Hawks 4-2 in the semifinal and the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in the Final, clinching the Cup with a 3-1 win at home on May 2, 1967. The next spring they missed the playoffs.
Maple Leafs playoff appearances since 1967, year by year
Toronto has played 36 postseasons since the Cup and sat out 22, counting the 2020 qualifying round as an appearance. Nineteen of the 36 ended in the first round, 11 in the second and five in the semifinal or conference final, the last in 2002.

The longest run of appearances is the most recent: nine straight from 2017 to 2025, one more than the eight from 1974 to 1981. The longest gap came just before it. After losing to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2004, Toronto missed the next seven postseasons, 2006 to 2012, with no playoffs at all in 2005 because of the lockout, and then three more from 2014 to 2016.

Maple Leafs series record by round
The wall has been the final four. Toronto has reached the semifinal or conference final five times since 1967 and lost all five: to Montreal in 1978, the Los Angeles Kings in 1993, the Vancouver Canucks in 1994, the Buffalo Sabres in 1999 and the Carolina Hurricanes in 2002. Only the 1993 series went seven games, and the Kings won Game 7 5-4 in Toronto.
| Round | Series | Won | Lost | Games W-L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First round | 35 | 16 | 19 | 88-97 |
| Second round | 16 | 5 | 11 | 42-58 |
| Semifinal or conference final | 5 | 0 | 5 | 7-20 |
| Stanley Cup Final | 0 | 0 | 0 | - |
| 2020 qualifying round | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2-3 |
| Total | 57 | 21 | 36 | 139-178 |

The losing record comes from the road: the Leafs are 77-78 at home and 62-100 away since 1967, and 34-42 in overtime.
Maple Leafs first-round exits
Toronto has won 16 of its 35 first-round series, 46 percent, and five of those wins came in the best-of-three preliminary round of 1975 to 1979. Counting the 2020 qualifying round against the Columbus Blue Jackets, 20 of the 36 postseasons ended in the first series the Leafs played.
The recent run made that worse. Of the 10 postseasons since 2013, eight ended in the first series, and the 2023 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, in overtime of Game 6 in Tampa, was Toronto's first series win since 2004. The only other since then came in 2025, 4-2 over the Ottawa Senators.
Maple Leafs Game 7 record and elimination games
The Leafs are 7-14 in Game 7s since 1967, 5-4 at home and 2-10 on the road. They went 6-4 in them from 1993 to 2004 and have lost all seven since, six of them in the first round and four against the Boston Bruins; the last, a 6-1 loss at home to the Florida Panthers on May 18, 2025, left them 0-7 in their past seven Game 7s. All-time they are 12-16.
- 2025 second round, Florida Panthers: lost 1-6, at home
- 2024 first round, Boston Bruins: lost 1-2 OT, on the road
- 2022 first round, Tampa Bay Lightning: lost 1-2, at home
- 2021 first round, Montreal Canadiens: lost 1-3, at home
- 2019 first round, Boston Bruins: lost 1-5, on the road
- 2018 first round, Boston Bruins: lost 4-7, on the road
- 2013 first round, Boston Bruins: lost 4-5 OT, on the road
Facing elimination in any round since 1967, Toronto is 32-36, and in winner-take-all games, including the deciding games of the short preliminary rounds, it is 10-15. Closing has been harder: the Leafs have had 53 chances to clinch a series and converted 21 of them.
Blown series leads: 3-1, 3-2 and 2-0
Toronto has lost 17 series since 1967 after leading at some point. Two of them got away from 3-1 up, the most painful score in our study of NHL playoff series comebacks:
- 1987 division final, Detroit Red Wings: Toronto won three of the first four, then lost 3-0, 4-2 and 3-0.
- 2021 first round, Montreal Canadiens: up 3-1, the Leafs lost Games 5 and 6 in overtime and Game 7 3-1 at home.
- 3-2 leads lost: six times, in 1987, 1993, 2001, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
- 2-0 leads lost: four times, in 1977, 1987, 1995 and 2025, the last against Florida after two wins at home.
The comebacks have gone the other way less often. Toronto has fallen behind 3-1 in a best-of-seven 11 times since 1967 and never come back; it forced Game 7 three times, all against Boston, in 2013, 2018 and 2024. In 2013 the Leafs led 4-1 in the third period in Boston before the Bruins scored three times and won 5-4 in overtime. Toronto has come back from 0-2 twice, in 1978 and 1993, and from 2-3 three times, in 1978, 1994 and 2002.
Maple Leafs playoff opponents: Boston, Ottawa and Philadelphia
- Boston Bruins: 0-7 in series since 1967, all in the first round, with four Game 7 losses since 2013.
- Philadelphia Flyers: 1-5, the only win in 1999.
- Montreal Canadiens: 0-3, in 1978, 1979 and 2021.
- Ottawa Senators: 5-0, in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2025.
How the Maple Leafs' 2025-26 season ended
The 2025-26 Leafs went 32-36-14 with 78 points, last in the Atlantic Division, 15th of 16 in the Eastern Conference and 28th of 32 in the league, with 253 goals for and 299 against. They were eliminated on April 2 with a 4-1 loss in San Jose and six games left, which ended the nine-year run of appearances.
The front office changed after it. General manager Brad Treliving was fired on March 30, John Chayka was named GM on May 3, coach Craig Berube was fired on May 13 and Jim Hiller was hired as coach on June 17. Toronto had the first pick in the draft and took Gavin McKenna in Buffalo on June 26.
