About the League Two simulator

Use this League Two simulator to settle the rest of the 2026-27 season your way, one scoreline at a time, with the standings re-sorting as you type. Simulate season hands every open fixture to the model at once, and Clear wipes the slate so you can start again.

League Two is the only EFL division with three automatic promotion places. Fourth to seventh go into the playoffs, and the bottom two are relegated to the National League. The margins can be tiny: in 2025-26 Salford City missed automatic promotion by a single point.

How to use the League Two simulator

  • Each result you add to an unplayed fixture is counted in the standings right away.
  • Press Simulate matchday to fill only the current round and keep the rest of the season open.
  • Real results are fixed: a game that has been played keeps its actual score and cannot be edited.
  • Markers in the projected table separate the automatic places, the playoff positions and the relegation spots.
  • Compare the projection with the live League Two table.

League Two simulator FAQ

How are League Two scores generated in the simulator?

Scores come from a Poisson model in which the home side is slightly favored. Ratings start from last season's goal difference per game within each division, then a fixed gap per tier is added, so the four clubs relegated from League One begin from a higher base than York City and Rochdale.

What is the League Two playoff format?

Fourth plays seventh and fifth plays sixth in two-legged semifinals, with the higher-placed club hosting the second leg. The two winners meet once at Wembley, where extra time and penalties settle a draw, and the winner joins the top three in League One next season.

What was the promotion line in League Two in 2025-26?

In 2025-26 Cambridge United took the third automatic place with 82 points, and Grimsby Town needed 78 to claim seventh, the last playoff spot, with Barnet missing out in eighth on 76. The line moves every season, so treat it as a guide.
