About the National League simulator

This National League simulator turns the rest of 2026-27 into your own projection: key in a result for any unplayed game and the standings shift immediately. Simulate season plays out everything that is left with the model, and Clear brings back the real table.

Only the champions go up automatically, so second place earns nothing more than a bye to the playoff semifinals, where the clubs from second to seventh chase one more place in League Two. At the other end, four clubs drop into the National League North or South.

How to use the National League simulator

  • Put a scoreline on any upcoming game to see what it does to the standings.
  • Prefer to go one round at a time? Use Simulate matchday.
  • Nothing that has already happened can be changed, because played games are locked at their real scores.
  • The projected table singles out the champion's automatic spot, the six playoff places behind it and the four relegation places.

National League simulator FAQ

How does the model judge clubs that were not in the National League last season?

It uses whatever table each club played in last season, measured by goal difference per game, with a step between tiers. Barrow and Harrogate Town are rated from League Two, while the four clubs promoted from the North and South, which have no table in the model, start one standard deviation below the division average.

How are the National League playoffs structured?

Six clubs take part. Fourth hosts seventh and fifth hosts sixth in one-off eliminators; second then meets the winner of fifth against sixth, and third meets the winner of fourth against seventh, in single-game semifinals. Rochdale won the 2026 promotion final at Wembley, beating Boreham Wood on penalties.

How many points does a playoff place take in the National League?

In 2025-26 it took 81: Southend United and Forest Green Rovers both finished on that total, in sixth and seventh, while FC Halifax Town missed out in eighth with 70. Carlisle United collected 95 points in third and still did not go up.
